.ma Domain Names: How to Choose, Register and Protect Yours
Your domain name is your company's address on the internet. Here is how to choose it, and above all how not to lose it.

Domain names are often bought in minutes, then forgotten. Yet a domain is one of your company's most important online assets: your website, email and SEO all depend on it. Losing it through a missed renewal can be very costly.
.ma, .com or both?
- .ma: Morocco's extension. It clearly signals a Moroccan business and builds trust with local customers.
- .com: the international extension, useful if you target customers abroad.
- Both: often the best option. Register both and redirect one to the other to protect your brand.
Choosing the name
- Short, easy to say on the phone and to spell.
- Close to your brand name.
- No hyphens or numbers unless they're part of the brand.
- Check it isn't someone else's registered trademark.
Registering a .ma domain
.ma domains are managed under the authority of the ANRT and registered through an accredited registrar. Requirements and documents can vary, so check with the registrar you choose.
Never lose your domain
- Turn on auto-renewal and keep a valid payment method on file.
- Use a lasting contact email (not an individual employee's).
- Keep registrar logins in a shared password manager.
- Put the expiry date in your calendar, on top of automatic reminders.
- Enable transfer lock when available.
Domain, DNS and email
Your domain points to your site and email through DNS records. A wrong change can take down the site or email. For email, also set up SPF, DKIM and DMARC: they keep your messages out of spam and stop others from spoofing your address.

Frequently asked questions
Who can register a .ma domain?
The rules are set by the .ma management framework and applied by accredited registrars. Check with an accredited registrar for the current requirements and documents.
What happens if we forget to renew?
The website and email stop working. After a grace period, the domain can be released and registered by someone else. Hence auto-renewal.
Is .ma better for SEO in Morocco?
A country extension helps Google associate the site with Morocco, but content, site quality and local SEO matter far more than the extension alone.
